Why do those ugly, chalky white stress marks appear on your Gundam parts even when using premium nippers?

The problem is localized molecular compression. When you clip a plastic part from the runner, the pressure of the metal blades squeezes the polystyrene plastic molecules into a tiny space under 0.01 inches wide. This extreme stress alters the plastic’s crystalline structure, causing it to reflect light as a bright white scar (stress whitening). Rubbing it with your fingernail only stretches the damaged molecules further, making the white spot even larger.

The "Nub Vanishing" Guide:

1. The Flush Cut: Leave about 0.03 inches of the plastic nub remaining during your first cut. For the second cut, use a single-edged hobby nipper to slice the remaining plastic perfectly flush with the part surface.

2. The Thumbnail Rub: If a slight white stress mark still appears, press your thumbnail firmly against the white spot and rub vigorously back and forth for 10 seconds. The localized friction heat gently softens the polystyrene, allowing the compressed molecules to expand back into place.

3. The Polishing Polish: Finish by rubbing the area with a soft glass file or a 4000-grit ultra-fine polishing stick. This seals the micro-scratches and completely restores the original rich plastic gloss.
